Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What bed sizes are available?

Single, double and queen. All three wall bed sizes are available in vertical or lateral version.

Does the bed have to be fixed to the wall?

The wall bed must ALWAYS be secured to the wall to prevent it from tipping when you open the large door hiding the mattress. Read the disassembly steps BEFORE unscrewing the wall bed from the wall.

Is it heavy to lift?

Weight varies depending on bed model and mattress type. Generally, there is no problem.

Advice : Foam being lighter than springs, the use of a foam mattress is highly recommended for users with reduced physical strength.

Can the bed come back up on itself?

No, it is impossible.

Lifting of the bed door is supported by a spring mechanism, which is adjusted to balance the combined mattress and door weight. Some bed models are lighter than other, but there is always a minimal effort required to lift the bed door.

Are there different mechanisms?

We use 2 mechanisms when making wall beds. The most common, the Italian mechanism, has been distributed in Canada for many years. It is characterized by 2 white metal cases, each containing 9 adjustable tension springs. The bed door is supported by 2 retractable chrome finish legs.
The second one, the “Murphy Bed” mechanism, is distributed exclusively in Quebec by . It is characterized by its black steel structure, its extra strong spring mechanism and its large folding leg.

Advice : For more information on mechanisms offered, you can go to the “Manufacturing” section on the page of each wall bed models.

What is the mechanism warranty?

5 years* (Italian mechanism)
25/Lifetime Warranty* (Murphy Bed mechanism)

* The warranty covers the mechanism and its metal components. The warranty is not transferable. Transportation and labor costs are not covered by the warranty.

What type of mattress must be used?

Standard size mattresses in foam or spring mattresses of 9” thick maximum.

In both cases, mattresses are offered in many choices of comfort and quality.
Please note that 100% latex, 100% viscose mattresses, pocket springs mattresses as well as futons are not appropriate for wall beds.

Advice : For more information on mattresses available, you can go to the “Mattress” section on the page of each wall bed models.

Can we leave the sheets and comforter inside the closed bed?

Inside the wall bed, there is about 11” left of space for the mattress and bedding. With a 9” thick mattress, sheets and comforter can stay on the bed before the wall bed door is closed.

Advice : Use a single size comforter with a double size wall bed. With wall beds, you do not have to use the comforter panels on each side to “hide” a box springs. This will result in less bedding inside the closed wall bed. Similarly, use a double size comforter with a queen size wall bed.

Can we leave the pillows inside the closed bed?

All depends on the pillows’ thickness.

There are many pillow sizes, some a lot thicker than others.
Advice : Selecting standard pillows and a thinner – but just as comfortable – mattress will enable you to keep both bedding and pillows inside the bed.

How deep is the Murphy bed?

16 “or 21” deep.

Wall beds 21″ deep have a library header inside the bed offered in several configurations that can also receive padded headboards.

What kind of material is offered?

Top quality melamine, solid wood and wood veneer : pine, birch and oak : Melamine is the most affordable option. Melamine beds can be combined with wood moldings on doors to create a more elegant look. Among the manufacturing options, the bed case can be made of melamine with a wood facade.

Advice : One of the options is the “combo” version: a wall bed case in melamine with a wood facade. The same color is used all around, even at the back of the bed.

Do you have many models?

Yes, we have more than 30 models to chose from.

With our choice of 24 melamine colors, 20 wood stain colors, 13 door models, 7 styles of cornice and more than 250 storage units, the possibilities are endless.

Can we add storage units?

Yes, they are all made to match the wall bed.

Additional storage units are suggested with standard height and width dimensions, but they are always custom-made to suit your needs and fit your dimensions.
Examples : Wardrobes, drawers, bookcases, computer desks, shelves, and even a home theatre can be added to your wall unit.

What is the lead time?

The lead time varies depending upon model.

Everything is manufactured upon quote, therefore we do not hold any models in stock. Lead time for a melamine unit is between 4 to 5 weeks and 6 to 8 weeks for a wooden one.

The access to the room is very cramped, will you be able to deliver the wall bed?

Wall beds are too large and too heavy to fit in an elevator or a staircase. This is why all wall beds are assembled on site.

Advice : When access is limited, it is important to plan the storage units accordingly. Our designers and interior design consultants are well-trained to guide you through your dimension choices.

Do we have to take out the baseboards to install the wall bed?

It is not mandatory.

Depending on how thick the baseboards are, we can install the wall bed directly in front of them, as we would with an armoire. In some cases, it looks better to push the bed completely against the wall. However, since most floors and walls are not at right angles, it is rare that the entire wall bed leans completely against the wall.

If your baseboards are old and rather large, we suggest that you keep them, because it is unlikely that you will be able to replace them if you move.

My floor is not leveled, can you install the wall bed despite of that?

Yes, all our furniture has levelers. The bed mechanism can compensate a 1” difference in floor level.

Floors are rarely leveled, but a 1” level difference is accepted and does not affect the mechanism warranty. If the floor level difference is higher, the bed legs will be modified for an additional fee.

Can the bed be moved?

The bed is assembled on site. Thus, it can be disassembled to be relocated.
Read the disassembly steps BEFORE unscrewing the wall bed from the wall. Disassembly steps are available on this website.

Advice : Ask your retailer about disassembly services.

Can we install our wall bed ourselves?

Assembling a wall bed requires minimal skills; a step-by-step manual is included. Expect a minimum of 2 hours for 2 people to assemble and secure the bed to the wall. Safety measures are well identified, and you must make sure that the wall bed is safely secured to the wall with fastening hardware suitable to your wall structure.
