The Dureault Residence: Side-Mounted Murphy Bed with Custom Storage
Designed for a residence in Granby, this Limuro project is part of a smart and subtle design approach where every square inch is optimized. The goal is to transform a workspace into a guest bedroom while preserving the harmony of the space and the flow of everyday life. The solution was a Unity Murphy bed with a side-opening, double-size unit, integrated into a custom melamine storage system with soft neutral tones and clean lines.
In Granby’s spacious and naturally lit homes, this kind of multifunctional system meets a variety of needs: remote work, hospitality, and everyday storage, without crowding the room or disrupting its aesthetic balance.
At the heart of the project is a Unity Murphy bed, installed horizontally. It’s an ideal solution for low-ceiling rooms or those requiring ample wall clearance to accommodate a desk, a window, or other elements.
When closed, the bed blends seamlessly into a plain, minimalist wall, creating a cohesive and elegant appearance. When open, the sturdy double bed rests on a Canadian-designed Murphy spring mechanism, engineered to withstand up to 1,200 pounds and backed by a 25-year warranty, for long-term performance and peace of mind.
Designed to perfectly complement the interior design, the furniture was crafted in melamine, combining two complementary colours. The doors of the Murphy bed and the storage units, as well as the top of the furniture, are made of White Nova Supermatte, a softhue that subtly reflects light without glare. This shade, chosen for its contemporary understated style, sets the tone for the entire design. It also ensures visual continuity across the entire facade.
Furniture Designed for the Room’s Dual Purpose
The interiors of open niches, side panels, and structural frames are finished in White Summit—a lightly grained wood tone that contrasts just enough to enrich the composition, while maintaining visual calm.
Eight copper-plated handles, arranged vertically on the doors and horizontally on the drawers, complete the look with a subtle metallic accent that adds both warmth and sophistication.
This wall unit includes not only the bed, but also several vertical and horizontal storage modules. To the right of the bed, a 12-inch-deep niche features three fixed open shelves, perfect for books, everyday items, or decorative objects. Beneath, two additional drawers enhance the storage, and on the right side, a large wardrobe with fixed shelves provides even more ample storage space.
Fine quarter-inch dark wood strips highlight the vertical lines, creating a subtle design. Custom fillers at the top and sides ensure a seamless fit with the room’s architecture, while the capped kick plate delivers a neat finish all the way to the floor.
